Downtown House Bar

At Downtown Backpackers Wellington we have our very own Downtown House Bar, a licensed bar that opens at 4.00pm daily and specializes in fun activities and bar games every evening.

Next door on the same level is the games room, where you meet up with friends at anytime of the day or evening and shoot some pool, try your luck on the pinball machine or kick back and relax to the music from the juke box.

What’s on in the Downtown House Bar:

• Monday – Killer darts competition: Come and try your best to knock the others out. Register at the bar by 7pm
• Tuesday – Free pool competition 7pm: Be registered at the bar by 6.45pm - bar tab up for grabs!
• Wednesday – Quiz night: Are you as smart as the bartender? Be at the bar for 7.30pm start.
• Thursday – Giant games night: See how high you can stack the jenga or compete at connect 4!
• Friday – Sports Night: Come cheer on your favourite team! All the big games shown on the big screen.
• Saturday – Ladies Night: 2-4-1 house bubbles and 20% off all drinks.
• Sunday – Free Pool All Night. Pool is free every other day of the week between 4pm and 6pm.

Café

When you are staying at Downtown Backpackers Wellington you must take a moment to sit back in the café and while enjoying the fabulous food, think back to how the room you are sitting in must have felt in its day as the elegant ballroom of the Historic Waterloo Hotel. The high ceilings and art deco features create a relaxing ambience, even the windows remain with the Waterloo Hotel emblem finely etched into them.

Complete breakfasts, snacks, healthy lunches and quick dinners, you’re bound to find something of your taste out of the wide assortment of daily freshly made and baked food items and our range of beverages.

The café has tables and also couches to sit back and relax, even without food, to read a book or have a chat to the other people staying at this budget city hostel. The place has a spacious feeling but cosy sitting areas are created for a more intimate touch. It’s really another communal area besides the game room next door.
